This series didn’t take long to go in a completely different direction than I was expecting. What I thought was going to be an 80’s adventure throwback has turned into an outlandish time-travel story. The girls have found themselves in the future, our present day, and are trying to escape their pursuers from the even-more-distant future. I’m still not really sure where this is going, but I’m having a blast following along.

There are some interesting themes to explore in this series. Meeting your future self isn’t a new concept in science-fiction, but I like the angle Vaughan took here of the adult seeing the disappointment in their childhood self. It’s an interesting, if potentially troubling, idea to ponder – how your childhood self would see you now.

The far-future pursuers speak in an exaggerated, barely comprehensible, version of Internet slang, and it is truly awful to behold. This is partly because it doesn’t seem completely out of the realm of possibility, the way language evolves and twists itself. Especially as the Internet has sped that up in an unprecedented way. This is also somewhat troubling to think about.

4/5
A fun ride of an adventure with a lot of interesting ideas. I’m looking forward to the next volume.

Yeah, I am a bit iffy on whether or not I like the direction its gone in. I totally fell in love with the 80s girl gang on sweet bikes thing in volume one and then that rug was pulled out… Going to read at least one more volume of it thought I think.
