Happy Canada Day!

I am at the end of a multi-week chest cold, and I’m currently wallowing in self-pity until this bloody thing finally finishes with me. We’ve had some beautiful weather here this month too, but when I’ve been outside I mainly just felt like lying in the middle of a field and quietly dying. The last few days have been much better, thankfully, so I’m starting to find joy in life once more.

We did still get out, though, and Paisley loved it:

Last one. We need more doggie photos in these trying times.

One quick run and then she just rolls.

Loving this hot weather!

Lee-Ann dragged me out of my hole to watch a Macy Gray concert last week, and she was fantastic. I think I’d only ever heard her single from twenty years ago, but I really dug her whole set. A good mix of chill and upbeat R&B jazz, I guess you might call it, with a few covers done in her style. The band was also really great. I caught part of a Mighty Mighty Bosstones song while passing an outdoor concert a few weeks back too, so it’s been a very 90s month.

With the Steam Summer Sale and E3 this month, I spent a lot of my free time playing games rather than reading. I love both hobbies, so it’s always a bit of a balancing act there with my free time, but the games won out this month. I just love getting caught up in the excitement of it all during these events.

My top three games I was most excited for coming out of E3, if anyone is wondering, would be:

  1. Cyberpunk 2077
  2. Sea of Solitude
  3. My Friend Pedro

I mean, come on:

Movies watched:
None.

TV watched:
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Season 5 (2017/2018) – Very happy the Internet saved Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I’m still a little surprised I like this show as much as I do.

W1A: Season 3(2017) – This was a bit of a disappointing season. It wasn’t bad, but it never really hit its stride.

The Hairy Bikers’ Chicken & Egg: Season 1 (2016) – We like to watch cooking shows while we eat, and this was added to Netflix. The food and travel are quite good, but I can’t decide if I hate these two hosts or not. They’re just a bit too much at times. These episodes are basically hour-long dad jokes. I also really hate it when food-travel show hosts cook another country’s dishes for the locals. They weren’t as obnoxious about it as Ainsley Harriott, but it still just seems off to me.

Games played:
God of War (2018) (PS4) – I finished this finally and absolutely loved it. It kept me interested enough to spend time on trophies after completing it, which is rare for me.

Gemini Rue (2013) (PC) – Very cool Wadjet Eye adventure game. They always bring a lot of originality to their games, mechanics that you don’t find in another adventure games. The story was also very good.

Night in the Woods (2018) (PC) – I’m still playing this, but I am really loving it. The dialogue is written so well, and the art style is a lot of fun. I’ve been taking the time to talk to every character I possibly can in this, just because it’s written so well. I’ve also been playing this over Steam Link on WIFI, which apparently works quite well now! As a side note, I was searching Twitter to see what people had said about this game, and this was a major hit with the Furries.

Come say hello:

What have you been reading/watching/playing this month?

Those photos of Paisley are great! I must’ve missed them as we were travelling. The only thing I’ve heard out of E3 that piqued my interest was the new trailer for the follow up to The Last of Us, but honestly I haven’t even watched the trailer yet because I’m afraid they might ruin it!

Thank you! She makes the photographs easy.

They showed some gameplay from The Last of Us, and it looks great. I’m also really excited for it, and will be picking it up on release for sure. My only concern is they seem to keep showcasing the violence and gore, as if that’s what drives people to that series, so I’m just hoping they don’t lose focus on the story.

In that last picture of Paisley he looks like you or you look like him. You know how that happens with dogs and their owners!

Sorry haven’t been feeling well! I think I had some serious hay fever last week. Should have taken off work but stupidly did not though I felt like crap.

    • Rob

Haha, yeah thankfully we already looked alike when we picked her up, so there was no transformation needed.

The sickness is nearly gone now, so that’s something at least. Just felt like whining when I wrote this, hah. Luckily I can work from home, so I didn’t really need to use much sick time.

Hope the hay fever settles down. Allergies can really knock people over this time of year.

I liked the writing quite a lot, but I wasn’t taken in by the story as a whole. I think it might have been my mood, though. I’m already feeling like I should re-read it at some point.
