Moar Books!

I came across a used book sale last year that turned out to be an annual event put on by a local newspaper, so I decided I’d drop by again this year. There’s thousands of books and over three hundred volunteers, so it’s quite the production. All proceeds go to local literacy programs, so at least I can justify my hoarding with that. I still haven’t read half the books I picked up last year.

I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump this month, so buying a pile of new books does seem a bit silly. Half the books do go towards The Classics Club, however, so it’s just preparation for a five year plan. It’s all good, I’m just being responsible and planning ahead. Mwaha!

Here’s the breakdown on the loot:

  • By Any Means by Charley Boorman
  • The Shipping News by E. Annie Proulx
  • Toujours Provence by Peter Mayle
  • French Lessons – Peter Mayle
  • The Professor and the Madman by Simon Winchester
  • Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare
  • Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes
  • For Whom the Bell Tolls by Earnest Hemingway
  • Walden by Henry David Thoreau
  • Scottish Lore and Folklore by Ronald MacDonald Douglas
  • The Plays of Oscar Wilde (5 plays) by Oscar Wilde
  • Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
  • Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe

I’ve read a couple of those and have a couple of those coming up! I met Frances Mayes when I first moved to Boston and it really made her novels for me, she’s just this little Southern woman who’s traveled the world and taken her love of cooking with her.

I love travel and food writing, but I’ve somehow managed to miss her book these past years. It sounds like an Italian Year in Provence, which sounds quite good to me.
