The Perfect Swing

My parents and brother have been in town this week, so I haven’t been on the computer too much after work. It’s been fun having them here, but I may need to start exercising a little more next week, as I’ve eaten out every night since last Friday. Not that I’m complaining, mind you.

I did find enough time to go golfing last Saturday. I haven’t been going very often in the last few years, and I just suck now. I mean, really suck. I didn’t realize just how bad I was until I was out there on the course. It felt as though I was golfing for the first time. l left agitated and frustrated, so I went to a golf shop and bought a new set of clubs.

This is how my mind works.

I’m now determined to become a better golfer. My goal is to be Not Horrible, which I think is fairly realistic. During these years away from the course, my swing has gone to hell. I didn’t realize it until my friends pointed it out to me, but I now swing like an angry Cerebral Palsy patient.

In an attempt to correct this, I’ve been going to the driving range after work. I don’t know if anyone here golfs, but I found this video really useful and thought I’d share it. They also have a number of other interesting videos.

  1. I’ve been golfing once, on a par three for part of my friend’s bachelor party. None of us had ever been golfing, so we nearly got thrown off the course (though we weren’t goofing around or anything, we were just slow).

My drives are scary, and I don’t mean scary good. I mean I hit the ball, and it sliced to the right far and bad, endangering golfers playing on other holes. A few times I hit the ball and I still don’t know if the ball ever landed. I think I had so much troubles because I’m used to swinging a hockey stick rather than a golf club.

Good luck with improving your game.

Going to the driving range after work was something I used to do with my Dad in the summer when I was still living in Vancouver. When I went home at the end of June for my Grandma’s funeral I played a round of Golf for a family reunion event (Dad’s side). It’s been years since I’ve played a full 18 holes. What I found most bizarre was the more tired I was, the better my drives. Go figure.

Writer, my slice is similar to that with my driver. The course we went to had houses on either side of the course, and I came very close to a couple. My drives have improved dramatically on the driving range, now I just need to figure out how to transfer that onto the course.

Chris, it’s probably because you’re forced into a relaxed state. My game seems to get better when I’m a little tired too. I get nervous and tense at the beginning of each course.

Don’t tell anyone, but I was a varsity golfer in high school. Three time letterman. Haven’t picked up a club since, except to goof off at the driving range.
